Description
Patrick has spent recent weeks testing this hypoallergenic gray metal, niobium, running precise electric currents through it to coax out color. For this pendant, Patrick was aiming to create a color shift from turquoise blue to green to mirror the colors in the tourmaline, then he added yellow sapphires for contrast.
What you’re seeing isn’t paint or dye, it’s a durable oxide layer, formed by the current itself, that reflects certain wavelengths of light back to your eye. Same principle as a butterfly wing: no pigment, just structure catching the light.
